OWEN RIVER LODGE
GUIDES AND TUITION
The Fly Fishing Guides at Owen River Lodge
The secret to maximising your fishing experience is to use an experienced fishing guide. Due in part to the clarity of the water, the “canniness” of our brown trout and the fact that these behemoths sparsely populate our rivers, we absolutely recommend you use the services of one of our highly experienced fishing guides. Think about it, you’ve spent a lot of time and money getting to New Zealand, investing in using the services of a fishing guide is a wise thing to do. After all time is one thing we can’t buy more of ! However, when it’s all said and done, the choice is yours; use a guide for all, some or none of your time at the lodge.

We are very proud of our team of fishing guides, we think they're the best team of fishing guides ever assembled in New Zealand. All our fishing guides are professional full time fishing guides. They all have over 10 years experience (most have over 20 years’ experience) as fishing guides and they are all members of the NZPFGA – New Zealand Professional Fishing Guides Association.

Of course one of the huge things our guides do is teach. We all know that one never stops learning, so whether you’re a complete beginner, a once a year river warrior or an accomplished fly fisher, I absolutely believe our guides can assist you to better enjoy your time on our rivers stalking our wild brown (and a few rainbow) trout!

Heli-Fishing
Why not combine the challenge of fly fishing with a breathtaking helicopter flight to one of the many remote wilderness streams in the region. Imagine fishing stretches of water possibly not fished by any other angler this season, where you will stalk large, wild brown trout in crystal clear mountain streams.
Helicopter for transport to trout rich rivers A helicopter will allow you to access countless kilometers of wilderness rivers and streams, inaccessible to vehicles, and accessed by foot only over great time and difficulty.

This makes most of the waters virtually untouched.
The lodge uses the services of local “chopper” companies that specialise in Heli-Fishing. The helicopter you will fly in will vary based on the number of anglers/guide and the location you choose.
